Dental Sedation And Anxiety In Southampton
The dental experience offered at Oakwood Dental Practice is a bit different. For a start, we are all really affable – and when you meet us, you will find out just what we mean. From your initial telephone call to our small and genuine team, to meeting our receptionists and then your dentist, hygienist and dental nurses, you will see that we are gentle, personable and kind and that your care is provided with a light touch.
We will always try our best to make you feel at ease and we find that what many nervous patients want is to feel heard, to be informed about what is going to be happening during their appointment and to know that they are in control. If you want us to stop at any point, we will. We allow plenty of time for appointments so that our patients don’t feel rushed.
Extra care for very nervous patients
If a friendly ear and calm chairside manner just isn’t enough to calm your fears, don’t worry, we have several different techniques to help. Our aim is for you to have dental treatment in the most comfortable way. We can achieve this with:
Oral sedation
Here a tablet or drink will help you feel relaxed. The sedative can be taken at our practice or, in some cases, at home and this method is for adults only. Although you remain awake, you will feel very calm and sleepy. Treatments that have taken an hour or more will feel like they are over much more quickly. You will be asked to bring someone with you who can take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
Intravenous sedation
A sedative medicine is injected into your hand or arm and will make you feel relaxed and drowsy. Many patients remember little about the treatment they receive whilst sedated in this way. Patients are awake and can talk to the dental staff at all times. As with oral sedation, you will be asked to bring someone with you who can take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. This technique works well for all types of anxiety and is usually used for patients over 16.
TESTIMONIALS
What do our happy customers have to say?
Am writing to thank you for the treatment you have given me recently – I don’t think I have attended such a professional and caring dental practice – you clearly take great pride in what you do and aim for the highest standard and it is reassuring for patients such as myself to walk away convinced that you have done a thorough and excellent job.
Thank you so much for all your kindness, patience and expertise over the last few months. I can smile with confidence again and that’s not only made a difference to my life, but also to those around me.
Dear Hennie and Grethe. You have both helped me overcome my huge fear of Dental Surgeons. Thank you. No longer frightened.
I know you will think this is unnecessary, although I don’t. I would like to thank you for the extra care and attention you gave me after my recent tooth extraction. You were very thorough and considerate with your aftercare. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for all the years of looking after my family and my dental care so well and for making our experience a cheerful and amazingly pain free one!
